Adopt a Homeless/Disabled Veteran Program

The Bloomsburg Fair Vespers Service Committee has sponsored the Homeless/Disabled Veterans at the Orangeville Manor for several years.

Our federal elected officials are responsible for these individuals and the program works like this:

These individuals are evaluated by the VA Hospital at Wilkes Barre PA then assigned by this hospital to the Orangeville Manor.  This transaction is where we continue to have trouble.  The elected officials claim that the Orangeville Manor is privately owned and they can no longer assist these veterans.

WHAT AN EXCUSE

Please remember the VA Hospital is a federally owned facility, which is now assigning these veterans to a private home.

My concern is these men fought for our freedom, now they are being treated like forgotten men, but should be treated as Heroes of the past.  What would happen if these men said we were private individuals during the wars they fought in?

This is how we know what love is:  Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.  In addition, we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.  If someone has material possessions and sees his brother in need, but has no pity on him, how can God be in him?  Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth.

I John 3: 16-18

MOREOVER, THAT'S NOT ALL:

The law is to give them sixty dollars a month from their pension checks.  That gives them two dollars a day for their own money to buy personal needs, and that is not much in this day/age.

I would like to have the paychecks and travel expense of our federal elected officials for three months and give them two dollars a day...with no transportation.  Just wonder how long that might last!

IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE
